Why MS Needs a Senior Senator- Why We Need Thad

“The United States Constitution does not mandate differences in rights or power, but Senate rules give more power to senators with more seniority. Generally, senior senators will have more power, especially within their own caucuses. In addition, by custom, senior senators from the president's party control federal patronage appointments in their states. Thus, being the junior senator may be disadvantageous if the senior senator is also from the same party.”
There is a perquisite, which includes the following:
“Senators are given preferential treatment in choosing committee assignments based on seniority. Seniority on a committee is based on length of time serving on that committee, which means a senator may rank above another in committee seniority but be more junior in the full Senate. Although the committee chairmanship is an elected position, it is traditionally given to the most senior senator of the majority party serving on the committee, and not already holding a conflicting position such as chairmanship of another committee. The ranking members of a committee (called the vice-chairman in some select committees) are elected in the same way”. –taken from Wikipedia Encyclopedia.

It is my opinion that Mississippi needs Senator Cochran to continue to serve in the senate to protect us and fight for us. He is a reasonable man and in the senate his seniority and his relationships within the Republican party and "across the aisle" are important and valuable. Cochran has respect. People need to realize what Thad's seniority means for our state.  An uncooperative junior senator is not what we need to represent us in the Senate. Senator Cochran can handle whatever majority there is and whom ever our president is.  When the GOP does retake the House and Senate, Mississippi will be in even better position when it comes to competing with larger population states. Thad will not let Mississippi be ignored.  I want Senator Cochran to remain in the Senate until there is someone that cares about our state as much as he does and is worthy of representing our state. Chris McDaniel is not that person.

Below is the breakdown of what has been going on in the senate since 2007:

110th Congress (2007-2009)
Majority Party: Democrat (49 seats)
Minority Party:  Republican (49 seats)
Other Parties: 1 Independent; 1 Independent Democrat (both caucus with the Democrats)
Total Seats: 100
Note:Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut was reelected in 2006 as an independent candidate, and became an Independent Democrat. Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont was elected as an Independent.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
111th Congress (2009-2011)Majority Party: Democrat (57 seats)
Minority Party:  Republican (41 seats)
Other Parties: 1 Independent; 1 Independent Democrat (both caucus with the Democrats)
Total Seats: 100
Note: Senator Arlen Specter was reelected in 2004 as a  Republican, and became a Democrat on April 30, 2009. Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut was reelected in 2006 as an independent candidate, and became an Independent Democrat. Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont was elected in 2006 as an Independent.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
112th Congress (2011-2013)Majority Party: Democrat (51 seats)
Minority Party:  Republican (47 seats)
Other Parties: 1 Independent; 1 Independent Democrat (both caucus with the Democrats)
Total Seats: 100
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
113th Congress (2013-2015)Majority Party: Democrat (53 seats)
Minority Party:  Republican (45 seats)
Other Parties: 2 Independents (both caucus with the Democrats)
Total Seats: 100
Note: Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) died on June 3, 2013. He was replaced by Jeffrey Chiesa (R-NJ) on June 6, 2013, making the party division 52 Democrats, 46 Republicans, and 2 Independents (who both caucus with the Democrats). On October 31, 2013, Cory Booker (D-NJ) replaced Chiesa, returning the party division to 53 Democrats, 45 Republicans, and 2 Independents (who both caucus with the Democrats).

Haven't we learned that change just for change sake does not work out that well given what has been happening since 2007? The Tea Party is the new change? NO THANK YOU. The Tea Party is willing to gut the GOP hoping for the outside chance that they can come into power. That is why the Tea Party is spending millions upon millions to try and defeat incumbent Republicans. This cannot happen. If the Tea Party wants to truly be a part of the Republican Party they would not try to defeat the best of our party. We need reasonable people in the House and Senate.  Thankfully Mississippi has that in Senator Thad Cochran and in our other MS Republican elected officials. Each of them endorsed Cochran because these officials know what reelecting Thad means for our state.

Go Thad and "The Grand Old Party"...."The Party of Lincoln & Reagan"
I am voting true Republican,
Thad Cochran for United States Senate.

Now that the election is over and Thad won the primary. I hope that Tea Party people will still support the Republican Party and if we now have new supporters I hope they will stay as well. All ideas are welcome but compromise happens if a group is going to accomplish anything. Everyone ideas can be incorporated. Compromise is NOT a bad thing our nation was founded on compromise. Our forefathers debated and compromised to give us our US Constitution.

Live on GOP!

I was privileged to see Ronald Reagan in person in Mississippi. I was a teenager and I brought sandwiches to his presidential campaign staff at the Neshoba County Fair. President Reagan cared about MS and was a good friend to our Honorable Senator Thad Cochran. I cherish the memory of witnessing their friendship. I hope and pray we can continue what these two men started in MS. I am sure if still living Reagan would be here helping our Senator Thad Cochran's campaign with sweet Nancy at his side. Reagan would stick with the candidate that is the Grand Old Party. Live on GOP!

Run Off - June 24th

"To the record number of Mississippians who turned out yesterday to vote, I sincerely thank you. I've always believed Mississippi is worth fighting for, and that's what I will continue to do over these next three weeks in this runoff campaign. We had a great day yesterday and it is one more step toward making November Mississippi's moment when we take back the U.S. Senate." - Senator Thad Cochran.

Rally for Senator Cochran

Senator Cochran asked us to work one more day. "So that we will be successful."

Governor Bryant praised Thad's military service and his service to our state in the US Senate.
Phil compared Senator Cochran to a professional football player at his best.

Congressman Harper said, "Thad is a conservative and not angry about it." and he also said,
"We don't need a show pony in Washington; we need a work horse in Washington."
He went on to explain that Thad will continue to work for Mississippi.

Lt. Governor Tate Reeves, " We need Thad back in the United States Senate."

Time Flies and Stands Still - Happy Birthday Lillie

It was so great to get together with cherished friends to celebrate Lillie Nye Cashion's 50th Birthday. It felt like all the years were erased the minute we all got together because our friendships picked up right where it left off. Time has flown by but it stands still when you are with dear friends. We all felt like we did when we were girls at MSU. It was also such a blessing to meet Lillie's beautiful family. Lillie's husband, Audie adores her and they have two beautiful daughters, Tyner and Elle.  Life is so good because of God's blessings.

MS's Best Friend- Thad

Thad is the best friend MS has ever had. He has done amazing things for our state. Thad is a statesman, gentleman, and good steward of our tax dollars. He is diplomatic and represents MS values well. I admire his character and his willingness to listen to the people and serve them. He cares about our state, and he has been on the watch for what we need. Senator Cochran has protected our military bases here in the state from shut downs. He made sure the MS Gulf Coast could recover from Katrina including changing laws for flood insurance. He has fought for the economic environment in MS. He is taking the heat for getting all he can of the dollars for Mississippi that would have been wasted in other richer tax based states. He worked hard to help Mississippi get the funds that would have otherwise just be thrown to the wind. He has fought for MS and without his clout in the senate MS will be ignored. Our Senator is a conservative. He is against wasteful spending.  Helping Mississippi didn't and does not increase taxes federally. The government would have spent the money elsewhere. Mississippi needed the advances made while our senior senator was in office.

I am thankful he is willing to sacrifice what could be a peaceful time in his life and run to keep MS having seniority in the senate. He is willing to give more years of being able to help us as much as he can. More years of his seniority is what we need before we have to go back to having a junior senator. I am not willing to vote for anyone else yet. He is the best. Thad is of stature and position to deal with what ever majority we have in the House and Senate, or what ever president is in the White House. He can fight for us and win. It is my prayer that Senator Cochran will be able to serve until there is someone that is worthy to replace him and truly cares about Mississippi as much as he does.

Thank you Senator Thad Cochran! I will be voting for you on June 3, 2014.

My Wonderful Beautiful Mother

There is no better description of you, Mother, than in Proverbs. I love you Mama!
I call you blessed.....

25Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.

26She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.

27She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.

28Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.

29Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.

30Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.

31Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31: 25-31

Mama,
Thank you for all you do. I know I can always come to you for advice and wisdom. I know that I can come to you for love and understanding. You are blessed and I am blessed to have you as a Mother.

Things that I have learned from you:
·      There is no reason to stay sad when you can…
“Pick up sticks”
·      Working hard can be fun.
·      Family is most important.
·      Help others in every way you can.
·      Have discernment about others yet don’t be judgmental.
·      Love others.
·      Love family unconditionally.
·      Don’t cry over spilled milk. (What is done is done; move on.)
·      God is there for me, God is good and He blesses us daily.
·      Follow the Lord and worship Him.
·      How to be a Mother by example and one day I want to be a Grandmother as wonderful as you.
                                                                               Love, Mary Ann
