Hurricane Isaac- My Report

Early yesterday morning, the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) on the Suomi-NPP satellite captured this nighttime view of Tropical Storm Isaac and the cities near the Gulf Coast of the United States. The clouds of Isaac were lit by moonlight. Cool, huh?

This hurricane hit our Gulf Coast on the anniversary of Katrina. We are so grateful of the preparations made for this hurricane. Stephen has been working long hours part of last weekend and this week. He has been working at the Governor's office here in Jackson. Pierce has been at the Republican Convention in Tampa, FL with MS's First Lady, Deborah Bryant. The Governor has been checking out the damage and conditions here in MS. There has been flooding along Mississippi's Gulf Coast. Many of the same places that flooded during Katrina are under water again today. Governor Phil Bryant has been on top of the situation. Mississippi is in State of Emergency. 

I worked a half day today due to the threatening weather and we will not have school tomorrow. Most school districts have done the same. So far we are having gentle rain and gusty winds but by tonight the conditions are supposed to get worse. Downed power lines and fallen trees are expected. The hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm but the storm is not moving so there is flooding in both MS and LA.

August 30
We only had rain and gusty wind here in Jackson. Stephen worked all day today. I took him supper at the office. Matt, myself and many of my neighbors did not work today due to the weather and power outages. Nathan, Stephen and Pierce all worked. Some areas here were without power, but we were never without power in this neighborhood.  There was damage, as expected, on the coast and there were some tornados in the state. There is a 700 acre lake that has a damaged levee.  Governor Bryant checked on the prevention measures to save that levee. Governor Bryant was joined by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, Sen. Roger Wicker, Rep. Steven Palazzo, state and local leaders, and emergency managers to discuss Mississippi's recovery from Hurricane Isaac.

We are still under a tornado watch until 5:00 am on the morning of August 31, just in time for me to go to work. Overall the people here are doing fine considering.

Republican National Convention- Keith was one of the 40 delegates.

Senator Thad Cochran was spokesman for the Mississippi Delegation with Senator Roger Wicker beside him as the
40 votes were cast for Presidential Candidate,  Mitt Romney.  My brother, Keith Heard was a delegate.

Stephen, the third baseman,  is on the back row just behind the Governor.  Phil's Phillies beat the Media Giants.

Courtney's 35th Birthday

 For Courtney's Birthday we had dinner at Monty's. It was great to get together with great friends to celebrate. Courtney invited her dearest friends and her family. The family that came was Bob, Fallon, Mary, Toxie, and Billie Beth. The friends that came were Robin, Heath and Ella, Jeremy, Christine and Jett, Mara and Anthony and me. Matt was in Dallas and had to miss the fun.  We had pasta and seafood and desert was a "Hello Kitty Cake." Courtney's Mom, Mary made the cake and it was delicious. Courtney got carded on her birthday!! That made us think of the times I was with her in college and I would get carded. I was 35 when I met her and she was just a young thing at MSU. I am so glad that I met her and we became BFFs.  It was great reminiscing about old times and making new memories.
