Stockings by Annie B. Heard

My grandmother, Ruby Heard started a tradition with my mother Annie B. Heard. Meme and Mama made stockings together for all of the first cousins (grands). At first the tradition was only for children, but now it has extended to as many loved ones as possible including preachers, teachers, coaches, newly weds, boyfriends, girlfriends, students, and dearly loved friends. Once you are one of the ones that are blessed with a stocking, when your family expands you will get another one to add to your mantle. Mama has not always been able to keep up with all of the "extended stocking family"so now she has other little stocking makers that have made a few themselves. Linda, Kelly, Lyla, and Celia have made some of the cherished stockings too. I hope Mama recruits Katie Heard because she is talented with a needle and thread. I enjoyed putting some of the beading on a few or consulting with Mama on her stocking making, but I have not learned how to make one yet. Mama does such a beautiful job cutting out shapes that fit the personality of each person and decorating each one. Mama has an amazing ability to show love.
